Supercomputer predicts final Premier League top 5

The competition for Champions League qualification in the Premier League has intensified following Chelsea’s defeat to Newcastle United over the weekend.

With Liverpool already crowned champions and relegation spots confirmed, attention has shifted to the battle for European qualification ahead of next season. ..Continue Reading

Arsenal, currently second in the table with 68 points after a 2-2 draw against Liverpool, are just six points ahead of seventh-placed Nottingham Forest.

Meanwhile, Manchester City were frustrated in a goalless draw against relegated Southampton, leaving Pep Guardiola disappointed with the result’s implications.

Despite the setback, Opta’s supercomputer predicts that City have a 92.9% probability of securing a top-five finish, with a 48.8% chance of ending the season in third place.

Aston Villa have a 40.5% chance of finishing in the top five, while Nottingham Forest hold an 18.7% likelihood. Arsenal, with a near-certain 99.9% probability of securing a top-five spot, are in a tight race to maintain second place.

Chelsea, on the other hand, have a 53.1% chance of qualifying for the Champions League, while Newcastle United remain strong contenders with a 95.18% likelihood of securing their place.

Following Matchday 35 results, Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest—currently sitting on 63 and 62 points, respectively—still have an opportunity to break into the top positions as they head into their final two fixtures of the season.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are reportedly planning a major squad overhaul this summer after an underwhelming conclusion to their 2024/25 campaign.

The North London club is expected to finish in second place but fell short in the UEFA Champions League, bowing out in the semi-finals against Paris Saint-Germain.

With that in mind, manager Mikel Arteta is focused on strengthening the squad to mount a serious title challenge next season.

Reports suggest that Arsenal are prepared to part ways with up to seven first-team players to clear space for new signings and inject fresh energy into the squad.
