former United forward Marcus Rashford arrive at the Nou Camp last summer, having previously faced the ‘special’ attacker during his time in the Premier League.
Although Rashford joined Barcelona on a season-long loan, Manchester United have already finalized a deal to make the move permanent next summer for a fee of approximately £30 million.
That decision looks to be a smart one for the reigning La Liga champions, as Rashford has made an impressive start to life in Spain, netting five goals across all competitions.
Szczesny praised the ‘excellent’ Rashford, saying he ‘deserves’ even more goals based on his impact, and referred to his teammate as a ‘complete player’.
‘Marcus is an excellent player, I love him a lot,’ Szczesny told Barca’s YouTube channel. ‘Direct in his play, attacks with speed, and he’s contributed to a lot of goals.
‘I think he’s a complete player, and I remember him since he was 18 or 19 in the Premier League. I knew he was special back then.
‘He has fewer goals than he deserves, because in training, when he’s having a good day, you can’t stop him. If he shows that magical right foot more in matches, he’ll be very dangerous.’
United manager Ruben Amorim approved Rashford’s departure after becoming increasingly dissatisfied with his performances and training efforts.
Rashford spent the latter half of last season on loan at Aston Villa before completing his highly anticipated switch to Barcelona in the summer.
In comments made last month, Rashford revealed his desire to remain at the Nou Camp beyond the current campaign.
Asked if he wanted to sign a permanent deal with Barcelona, he told ESPN: ‘Oh yeah, for sure.
‘I’m enjoying this football club and I think for anybody who loves football, Barcelona is one of the key clubs in the history of the game. For a player is an honour.’
Looking back on his lengthy tenure at Old Trafford, Rashford added: ‘It was so many years in one place. People forget this, but 24 years, 23 years of my life was with Manchester United.
‘So sometimes you just need a change. I think maybe this is the case with me and yeah, I’m enjoying everything.’
