John Terry has heaped praise on Chelsea central defenders Thiago Silva and Antonio Rudiger, saying the Blues are ‘lucky’ to have them in the team.

The duo have played key roles for the club under Thomas Tuchel, helping deliver the UEFA Champions League last campaign and continuing to perform in the current season.

Silva’s top performances since joining from PSG in 2020 have seen his stay at Stamford Bridge extended twice, with the 37-year-old recently penning a new contract which will keep him at the club until the end of the 2022/23 campaign.

Chelsea’s iconic former defender Terry is a huge admirer of Thiago Silva and even wishes he could’ve played alongside the veteran centre-back.

During a Q&A session on his Instagram page, Terry said of the Brazilian defender: ‘Absolutely love him. To be playing so well at his age in the best league is unbelievable. ‘Just wish I could’ve played alongside him.

‘He does everything so well without taking any risk and keeping things simple. ‘We are very lucky to have him at the club.’

Rudiger has also been another standout player for the London side recently and has caught the eye of Terry with his dominance at the back.

‘I love you brother. What a player, the passion he shows for our club is what I love to see,’ Terry added on the Germany international.

‘Great defender and an absolute animal. ‘Lucky to have you at our club.’

But, Rudiger is yet to commit his future to the club, with his current contract due to expire at the end of this campaign.

And he is believed to have turned down two proposals from Chelsea, although he has insisted he is happy at Stamford Bridge.
