His former assistant Michael Carrick is set to take charge of Tuesday night’s huge Champions League tie against Villarreal with the team now looking to appoint an interim manager until the end of the campaign.

Solskjaer leaves after only shy of three years in charge and while Terry believes the Norwegian coach will be hurt by Sunday’s decision, he suggests the former United manager will have anticipated the move.
‘When you are Man United like Ole was it is difficult to take,’ Terry told Sky Sports News. ‘It will hurt him for sure.
‘But it is an results business, we all know that going into it. It is really sad it has happened but unfortunately its part and parcel of the job.
‘It is difficult. Ole is Man United through and through but when you don’t get those results it is difficult.
‘Yesterday when you see him walking off, apologising to the supporters, it is not a good place to be. ‘In a way, he will be half-relieved too to be away from it.’
Marcus Rashford became the first United player to pay tribute to Solskjaer on Sunday afternoon with club legends David Beckham and Gary Neville also passing on messages.
