By Saturday, the north London club delivered a flat display against their rivals, who claimed all three points at Stamford Bridge courtesy of Joao Pedro’s first-half goal.
Spurs were met with boos from the home crowd during and after the match, and were arguably fortunate to escape with only a one-goal deficit, as the visitors squandered several clear chances late in the game.
Their home form continues to be a concern, with just three wins in their last 19 home fixtures under both Ange Postecoglou and Frank’s reigns.
Despite the setback, Tottenham remained third in the Premier League ahead of Liverpool’s fixture against Aston Villa later in the evening.
Surprisingly, forwards Xavi Simons, Richarlison, Randall Kolo Muani, Brennan Johnson and Wilson Odobert didn’t manage a single shot, while Mohammed Kudus accounted for all three of his team’s efforts, with only one on target.
To make matters worse, the result marked Chelsea’s 10th win in the teams’ last 12 meetings.
As supporters expressed their disappointment, two players looked visibly downcast after the final whistle, drawing attention with their behavior.
A clip posted on X by Spurs content creator Chris Cowlin appeared to show defenders Djed Spence and Micky van de Ven walking past Frank without acknowledging him.
Whether this was a miscommunication remains uncertain, but the Danish manager commented on the moment during his post-match media duties.
“I think I understand why you ask the question, but that’s one of the small issues,” Frank explained.
“Micky van de Ven and Djed Spence have performed well this season, and it’s just a small thing.”
Spurs are set to face Copenhagen in the Champions League on November 4 before welcoming Manchester United in the Premier League on November 8.
Frank’s side also have upcoming matches against Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain and Newcastle United in the coming weeks.
