‘Don’t you understand?’ – Tuchel ripped into Werner during Chelsea vs Everton

Werner

Thomas Tuchel tore into Chelsea striker Timo Werner during his side’s 2-0 victory over Everton on Monday and was caught berating the misfiring German star.

Chelsea continued their good run of form under their new coach, solidifying their place in the top four with a win over one of their rivals for Champions League qualification.

The blues recorded the ninth clean sheet under Tuchel and secured three points thanks to Ben Godfrey’s own goal and a penalty from Jorginho in the second half.

It was, however, another frustrating night for Germany international Werner who wasted several presentable chances to increase Chelsea’s advantage.

His profligacy in front of goal wasn’t Tuchel’s main gripe, however, with Werner featuring prominently on the left wing when he had been deployed on the opposite flank by his German manager.

With the scores still 0-0, pitchside microphones caught Tuchel saying, ‘Timo, how long are you staying on the left? You’re playing on the right! The last 15 mins you’ve only been on the left! Don’t you understand?’

Werner, who has scored just a goal in his last 12 games in all competitions recently opened up on his issues in front of goal but said he was happy to be screamed at by his manager and insisted that sort of coaching gives him additional motivation.

‘I can talk to him very easily,’ Timo Werner told the BBC of Tuchel ahead of Chelsea’s Premier League game with Liverpool last week.

‘When he screams on the pitch, no problem for me. I need types of managers who scream at me. It gives me more power.’
