Thomas Tuchel is preparing to leave the United Kingdom in December due to Chelsea’s decision to sack him, according to reports.
The German manager was relieved of his duties in September, and the club’s choice not to place him on gardening leave has left him in a tough situation.
He was replaced by Graham Potter in the Stamford Bridge dugout, and Chelsea have been struggling in recent weeks.
Potter got off to a good start but has now led his team to three successive Premier League defeats heading into the World Cup break.
Tuchel’s situation has been reported by The Telegraph. After his sacking in September, the German manager’s two members of staff, Zsolt Low and Benjamin Webber, were placed on gardening leave at the club.
As a result of this, they do not have to leave the country next month. The report says it is ‘unclear’ why Todd Boehly did not place Tuchel in the same situation.
Post-Brexit laws have ‘forced’ the former Paris Saint-Germain head coach to leave the UK because he is out of employment.
Low and Webber being placed on gardening leave technically mean they are still employed by the London club.
Tuchel had ‘settled’ in Surrey, with his two daughters going to school there. It will be quite a hassle to find a new permanent home elsewhere, but it appears he and his family have no choice than to leave.
He had recently been on holiday in India but will pack up and move to Munich. This means Tuchel will be the first high-profile foreign coach to be hit by the post-Brexit laws.
The report adds that another former colleague of Tuchel, Arno Michels, made it clear he wants to leave England, so was not placed on gardening leave.
Despite moving to Munich, it is reported that Tuchel intends to frequently travel back to London and will split his time between the two cities.
