Van der Vaart launches attack on Harry Maguire: ‘He tells his wife how bad he is’

Rafael van der Vaart has launched another attack on Manchester United skipper Harry Maguire after his error in their 5-2 victory over Bournemouth.

The United defender, who joined in an £80m deal from Leicester last year, was nutmegged by Stanislas for Bournemouth’s first goal.

Solskjaer was unhappy with Maguire during the first water break, but United still went on to get a 5-2 win to boost their chances of qualifying for next season’s Champions League.

And Rafael Van der Vaart did not hold back in his criticism towards the England defender.

When asked about his mistake during a show on Dutch TV station Ziggo, Van der Vaart said: ‘I think Maguire goes home every day and tells his wife: ‘I screw up, but I earn so much. They really believe I’m good.’ I really think so, he laughs at everyone.’

But, This is not the first time Van der Vaart has harshly spoken about Maguire as earlier this campaign he compared the former Leicester star to an amateur Sunday league player.

Van der Vaart also backed Nathan Ake to secure a transfer from Bournemouth after Solskjaer told the player that United ‘need a left-footed centre-back’.

‘That is nice if there is no crowd and no music after the game. Then you hear things like this,’ Van der Vaart said about the dicusion between Solskjaer and Ake.

‘A transfer? I hope for him, I think he’s doing very well. Why not?’

However, when quizzed about his conversation with Ake, Solskjaer said: ‘I’ve got seven centre-backs, so I don’t know where that comes from. We’re fine,’ said the United manager.
