Strikes from Murillo, Nicolo Savona and Morgan Gibbs-White meant Forest departed Anfield with the victory for the second consecutive season, as Liverpool suffered their sixth defeat in just seven outings. ..Continue Reading
Even though Alexander Isak, Mohamed Salah and the returning Alisson were all included in the starting lineup, Arne Slot’s men failed to turn their heavy possession into results against Sean Dyche’s well-organised side.
As a result, Liverpool slipped down to 11th place, having won six and been beaten six times in their Premier League fixtures so far, while Forest climbed to 16th after securing their third triumph of the season.
The setback also marked the first time since 1965 that Liverpool have been beaten in successive league matches by margins of three goals or greater.
Slot’s players have now let in 20 goals in 12 league fixtures for the first time since 1992, and they have also equalled their biggest Premier League home defeat.
After the uninspired performance, captain Van Dijk spoke to Premier League Productions, stating that Liverpool fell short regarding “battles, challenges [and] the fight” and labelling their approach as “rushed”.
The centre-back went on to acknowledge that the squad must “work harder” and that their recent run of form represents a “problem”.
“Everyone in the team has to take responsibility as well,” Van Dijk said.
“Football is a team and everyone has to take responsibility. We have to digest this and take it on the chin. We need to work harder. We have to keep going.
“Everyone is disappointed, like they should be, because losing at home to Nottingham Forest is, in my eyes, very bad. That’s the least I can say about it. Those goals we conceded are far too easy, and we all have to look in the mirror. I’ve been at this club so long now, and we’ve been through adversity. We will bounce back, but it doesn’t happen overnight. I’m not a quitter, and we will keep going.”
The centre-half then commented on some Liverpool supporters leaving their seats early, seemingly fed up after Forest’s third goal.
Van Dijk continued: “I can’t decide what the supporters are doing if they leave early. I know the fans have been through thick and thin with us. They will be there with us when we come out of this because we will come out of this.”
Liverpool next play at home against PSV in the Champions League on November 26, before heading to West Ham on November 30.
