Timo Werner sends message to Chelsea fans after being abused in training

Timo Werner has thanked Chelsea fans for the support after he was abused during their open training session on Wednesday.

Chelsea players trained in front of their fans at Stamford Bridge and gave the people in attendance the opportunity to see the Champions League and Super Cup trophies, as well a glimpse of Romelu Lukaku in action.

But, after the session had ended one Chelsea supporter abused Werner over the stadium’s PA system when fans were given the chance to give their prediction for the club’s upcoming Premier League game against Arsenal on Sunday.

After being handed the microphone, the Chelsea supporter said: ‘Let’s have it right, get Werner out the club.’

The statement was met with boos from the other Chelsea fans in the stand, while one woman angrily stood up and told the person: ‘You get out! Who are you? Who do you think you are? Get out!’

Thugh, It’s unclear if Werner heard the fan’s comment as Chelsea stars were stood by the dugout on the opposite side of the pitch.

And in his message to Chelsea fans after the session, Werner made no reference to the incident as he made a post on Twitter: ‘Thanks for all the love and support I received today, Blues fans! Really appreciate it.’

Werner moved to Chelsea in a £47.5m deal from RB Leipzig last year but he missed several big chances during his first season in England.

The German star ended the season with just 12 goals in 54 matches and is now facing a battle to play as the focal point in Chelsea’s attack after the arrival of Lukaku.

Speaking after a pre-season friendly game with Arsenal, Tuchel challenged Werner to be ‘more decisive’ in front of goal.

Asked if Werner’s inconsistency will continue to be a problem for Chelsea this campaign, Tuchel replied: ‘I hope not, he had also an assist.

‘Nothing has changed so far. He had a so-so Euros with Germany, but that was a concern of the whole team not his personal problem. ‘Now it’s on him. Like always it’s on him to show his quality and his ability.

‘It’s very hard to have a first match, first 45 minutes after a tough week that we put into the players, to play on this kind of level.

‘I’m happy that he was dangerous but there were some chances where he could be more decisive, could have scored could have assisted another one or two.

‘It’s a bit the same, like in the last games, but like I said, we’ve just started and it’s not the moment to blame.’
