Timo Werner warned he will be ‘moved on’ after Tuchel comments

Timo Werner has been warned he will be ‘moved on’ unless he improves quickly after Thomas Tuchel’s comments on the Chelsea star.

Werner has had a mixed spell at Stamford Bridge after his £47.5m move from RB Leipzig and former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino says patience may be running thin at the club.

Despite helping the Blues win the Champions League, reach the FA Cup final & secure a top-four finish in the league last campaign, Werner attracted huge criticism for his poor finishing.

The German star has scored two goals in his last three games for Chelsea but could be set for a frustrating season as he plays back-up to Romelu Lukaku.

Tuchel was happy Werner got a goal in Saturday’s win over Southampton but said afterwards there was room for improvement.

‘All of us [are relieved with his goal] but in the end, he was where he needs to be,’ Tuchel said in his post-match press conference.

‘He has to keep on going, he can improve his game, a lot to improve but we are happy and relieved also that he scored in the late minutes of this game.

‘It was a very important goal to secure the win and on the other hand he was there where he needed to be.’

Cascarino believes Tuchel’s comments were ‘telling’ and has sent a warning to Werner that he will be sold unless he works on his finishing.

‘Thomas Tuchel’s comment that there were “a lot of things to improve” for Timo Werner after his goal against Southampton was telling,’ he told The Times.

‘Chelsea fans have been loyal to misfiring centre forwards, such as Andriy Shevchenko and Fernando Torres, in the past and the same has been true of Werner, but strikers cannot be simply OK at big clubs.

‘The German cannot continue to miss so many big chances, because otherwise – just as with Shevchenko and Torres – the club will move him on.’
