Kylian Mbappe gave Real Madrid the lead in the 22nd minute with help from Jude Bellingham, but Fermin Lopez quickly responded for Barcelona, assisted by Marcus Rashford.
Real Madrid regained control before halftime when Bellingham struck again, securing all three points for the home side.
However, the final score wasn’t the main headline, as tempers flared in the dying moments and a bench-clearing scuffle erupted.
Now, the exchange between Vinicius Jr and Yamal that preceded the confrontation has come to light.
After the match ended, Vinicius — visibly frustrated after being subbed off by Xabi Alonso in the 72nd minute — began arguing with Yamal as they headed toward the tunnel.
The situation escalated quickly, with security stepping in to restrain the Brazilian as he tried to approach the Barcelona youngster.
Earlier in the game, Vinicius was heard telling Yamal: “You only pass backwards.”
Vinicius wasn’t the only one to confront Yamal after the final whistle; Dani Carvajal also approached the Barcelona player.
According to Marca, Carvajal intended to confront his national teammate, and Fabrizio Romano reported that he told the 18-year-old: “You speak too much. Speak now”.
Eduardo Camavinga intervened, holding Yamal back as more players from both teams joined the fray.
The fallout led to bookings for two Real Madrid players, including substitute goalkeeper Andriy Lunin, while Pedri was sent off for a late foul on Aurelien Tchouameni.
Despite the chaos, Real Madrid celebrated joyfully after extending their lead at the top of La Liga to five points.
Asked about the incident in his post-match press conference, Alonso downplayed the situation.
He said: “The last minute fight? I think it reflected the intensity and the importance of the game. I think it’s healthy competition.”
