Jack Wilshere makes Premier League top four prediction for the new season

Jack Wilshere has made his prediction for the Premier League top-four next season, backing Manchester City and Manchester United to dominate and Liverpool to finish fourth.

The 2021-22 Premier League season starts on Friday with Championship play-off winners Brentford playing against Arsenal.

Last season, Manchester City won their third title in four years, eventually finishing 12 points ahead of Manchester United, 17 points ahead of Liverpool & 19 points clear of the Champions League winners Chelsea.

Wilshere believes Man City’s dominance will continue next campaign, with Pep Guardiola’s team ‘just too good’ to slip up in their defence of the title.

The former England player expects United to enjoy another promising season, however, and believes Chelsea and Liverpool will occupy the final two top-four spots ahead of Arsenal and Leicester City.

While revealing his top-four prediction on talkSPORT, Wilshere said: ‘Manchester City will win it. I would prefer Man United to win it but I think they come second. Chelsea third, Liverpool fourth, Arsenal fifth and Leicester sixth.

‘I played against Man City so many times and it’s awful, it’s horrible. You can’t get the ball off them. Pep just gets them playing these little passes. If they get Harry Kane as well it’s over before we even start.

‘Liverpool will have a better season than last year because [Virgil] van Dijk is back, but I just think Man City are just too good.

‘[Manchester United] tried with [Jose] Mourinho to bring in that experienced manager who just wants to win, but he didn’t win. I think Solskjaer has done well. But they have to win a trophy next season.’

On the opening weekend of the new campaign, Man City travel to Tottenham, Chelsea face Crystal Palace, Liverpool visit Norwich City and The Red devils play Leeds United.
