Xavi implements 10 strict rules at Barcelona – just like Lampard did at Chelsea

Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez has followed in the footsteps of former Chelsea coach Frank Lampard when it comes to laying down the law as manager.

The Barcelona legend took over the helm at the Camp Nou last week after his two-year spell in charge of Qatari based team Al Sadd.

And it hasn’t taken Xavi long to stamp his authority at Barcelona, after establishing ten new rules for playing staff to follow.

According to Spanish outlet AS, the 41-year-old imposed the new rules days after he had taken charge, in an attempt to turn the club’s fortunes around.

Barcelona are currently in ninth position in La Liga after drawing 3-3 with Celta Vigo on Saturday, despite leading 3-0 at the break.

The Catalan giants are already 11 points behind league leaders Real Sociedad, and also ten points behind rivals Real Madrid.

Xavi’s new rules are similar to those imposed by Lampard during his time as Chelsea manager. The former England player had several rules which carried huge fines to those who broke them.

During his first campaign at Stamford Bridge, Lampard introduced 12 new rules which later went viral.

It included being fined £2,500 for being late for matchday/first-team departure, £20,000 for missing the start of training, and £10,000 for failing to report injury before a day off or 1 hour 30 minutes before training starts.

Here is a list of Xavi’s ten new rules at Barcelona:

1. Players must arrive 90 minutes before training starts

2. Staff must arrive two hours before training starts

3. Players must eat at the club’s training ground

4. Fines have returned

5. Fines will be doubled for repeat offences/offenders

6. Players must be home before midnight two days before a game

7. Players must give their all in training

8. Player’s off-field activity will be monitored

9. ‘Risky’ activities are no longer permitted

10. A good image is essential
