On Saturday afternoon, the Red Devils suffered a heavy 3-1 defeat to Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium, dropping them to 14th in the Premier League standings.
Speaking after the match, Amorim said: “I think we played the game they wanted us to play, the opponents – really confused: first balls, second balls. If we play the game of the opponent, it’s harder for us.”
Due to United’s ongoing difficulties, questions surrounding Amorim’s future have resurfaced.
Meanwhile, Gareth Southgate, Oliver Glasner, and Xavi have all been linked with the managerial role at Old Trafford should Amorim depart.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, former Barcelona manager Xavi would ‘immediately’ accept an offer to lead United.
As reported by Caught Offside, Romano said: “Xavi is studying the Premier League. Xavi is monitoring the Premier League and Xavi would go immediately Man United, even without European football, he would go immediately to Premier League.”
Reflecting on United back in 2011, Xavi referred to the Red Devils as ‘my club in England’.
He reportedly said, via ESPN: “There was a long time when I genuinely thought about accepting United’s offer. I needed a change of scenery and things were not going well for me at Barcelona.
“I have always felt a real attachment to English football and Manchester United would be ‘my club’ there.”
Despite the speculation linking him to United, reports suggest Xavi has also received an offer from Saudi Arabia.
According to The Sun, Romano stated that Al Ittihad have contacted Xavi to replace Laurent Blanc, who was recently dismissed.
However, Romano also said that Xavi would prefer a move to the Premier League.
United return to Premier League action this weekend with a home fixture against newly-promoted Sunderland on Saturday afternoon.
