Barcelona coach Xavi reveals how Real Madrid are influencing referees

Xavi, the Barcelona manager, asserts that Real Madrid is “influencing” referees in Spain through their TV channel.

Earlier, Xavi contended that La Liga referees are showing favoritism towards Madrid, posing a significant challenge for Barcelona in the title race.

The former Blaugrana star has reaffirmed his position, and despite his own club’s Caso Negreira scandal not aiding their situation, he claimed that Madrid exerts pressure on match officials through its TV channel.

He said at a press conference: “I already said that I don’t like that they [Madrid] condition the referees, but they continue to do it every week. The referees are going to whistle conditioned.

“The ‘Negreira case’ hasn’t helped us either, but that’s what we have to compete with. I agree one hundred percent with the president’s words. It’s a reality and we can’t deceive Barcelona fans.”

Xavi added: “Even a blind man can see what is happening. [Atletico Madrid boss Diego) Simeone said it the other day, that we are not stupid. Everyone is seeing it, but it is the media that has to say it.”

Barcelona, led by Xavi, face mounting pressure as they trail league leaders Real Madrid by 10 points. With the manager departing this summer, there’s a sense of urgency to salvage a season that risks being unproductive.

Their La Liga campaign resumes on Saturday against Alaves, followed by a home match against Granada on February 11.

Prior to the Champions League return against Napoli on February 21, they confront Celta Vigo in the league four days earlier.
