Lamine Yamal & Lewandowski voice dissatisfaction over Rashford’s transfer to Barcelona

Rashford spent the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa, having originally come through the ranks at Manchester United.

During his stint, he featured in 17 matches, netted four goals, and assisted six times—delivering a solid run of form. Despite his contributions, Villa boss Unai Emery chose not to activate the clause for a permanent deal.

Upon returning to Old Trafford after the 2024–25 campaign, Rashford was listed for transfer and surprisingly ended up at Barcelona.

The Catalan club had initially prioritized signing Niko Williams, but their plans were derailed when he committed to a decade-long extension with Athletic Bilbao.

Luis Díaz was also considered, but Barcelona backed away due to concerns over the financial demands.

In the end, Rashford became their chosen target. He joined on a loan deal valued at €30 million, with an option to make the move permanent.

However, tensions quickly arose within the squad following the announcement.

Lamine Yamal, widely regarded as Barcelona’s leading forward, had been led to believe that Niko Williams was the preferred signing—and he reportedly reacted negatively to Rashford’s arrival.

‘El Nacional’ reported, “Yamal viewed the club’s sudden pivot to Rashford as a ‘compromise’. He feels displeasure that his opinions were not reflected at all.”

The unease surrounding Rashford’s arrival isn’t limited to Lamine Yamal—reports suggest Rafinha and Lewandowski have also voiced concerns.

Rashford’s ability to operate both on the left flank and through the middle directly overlaps with their roles, prompting fears about diminished minutes on the pitch.

Lewandowski, in particular, is believed to be taking the situation to heart. With this campaign likely marking his final chapter at Barcelona, he’s hoping for a memorable send-off.

His ambition to remain central to the team’s plans is strong, but the introduction of a potential rival has unsettled him.
