Zidane sends message to PSG as Man Utd want Pochettino

Zinedine Zidane has already made it clear that he would be willing to take over at PSG if Manchester United are able to sign Mauricio Pochettino, according to reports.

United are searching for their next permanent head coach after sacking Solskjaer on Sunday and appointing Michael Carrick on an interim basis.

Carrick got off to a superb start on Tuesday evening as the Red devils reached the Champions League knockout phase with a 2-0 win over Villarreal.

United’s hierarchy had hoped that Solskjaer could rescue the current situation which has seen them suffer five defeats in their last seven Premier League games.

And they are now contemplating the prospect of attempting to lure Pochettino away from Paris Saint-Germain before the end of the campaign, or continue the season with an interim manager.

United are now in talks with former Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde, who has been out of work since leaving Camp Nou almost two years ago.

Zidane is among the candidates linked with a permanent move to Old Trafford but it’s understood that the former Real Madrid boss is holding out to become France’s next manager after Didier Deschamps.

But, The Telegraph claims that Zidane would take the PSG job if it was to be made available sooner than a role with the French national side.

During an interview in 2016, Zidane said that it would be ‘impossible’ and ‘complicated’ for him to manage PSG due to his ties with his hometown club Marseille, but he has changed his view since then.

Zidane has been out of work since leaving Real Madrid at the end of last campaign. It’s also believed that his wife, Veronique, was ‘opposed’ to moving to Manchester.

When asked about his links with a switch to the theatre of dreams on Tuesday, Pochettino said: ‘I am focused. I am very focused on football.

‘I am not a child, I spend my whole life playing football, and now my 12th year being coach, we’re in a business that the rumours are there. I understand what is going on.

‘This kind of thing cannot distract. Rumours are there, we need to live with that. We are so focused, giving 100 per cent to get our best from the club and the players. ‘I am so happy at Paris Saint-Germain, for tomorrow we are so focused to get the best result we can.’
