The 13-time Premier League winners currently sit 14th in the standings, having collected seven points from six matches and conceded 11 goals.
As reported by BBC Sport’s Simon Stone, United minority shareholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe intends to keep faith with Amorim for the rest of the campaign, following his summer backing.
The club are described as ‘adamant’ that no alternative candidates have been lined up to succeed the Portuguese coach.
Still, in a time when Premier League bosses face increasing pressure after poor results, United might feel the need to act if Amorim fails to improve the team’s trajectory in the near future.
Zinedine Zidane, who previously managed Real Madrid, has frequently been linked with the United role since his second departure from the Bernabeu in 2021.
Reports from Turkey earlier this month suggested he had agreed to manage Fenerbahce, though Domenico Tedesco was ultimately appointed.
In comments made in 2024, Zidane’s former France teammate Emmanuel Petit stated that the legendary midfielder would need two ‘guarantees’ before accepting the United position.
Petit highlighted Zidane’s limited command of English—Zidane himself told L’Equipe in 2022 that this had been a factor in his decision not to work in English football—and also pointed to two football-related factors that would influence his choice.
“At the moment, the environment at Manchester United for years has not been good,” Petit said.
“The stability of the bench, the level of the players as well, the expectation of the club is not the same that it used to be.
“United is still a huge club, but not on the pitch anymore. And Zizou is very conscious and very careful about that, the quality of the players … If he takes the job at Manchester United, that means he’s got solutions.”
