Mikel Arteta in furious clash with Hojbjerg after ‘ssshing’ him in heated derby

Mikel Arteta clashed with Tottenham’s Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg during a fiercely contested pre-season friendly match between the two north London rivals.

Arsenal travelled to N17 on Sunday for their final warm-up match before the Premier League season starts on Friday, with the gunners kicking off the season away to Brentford.

But the match was a blood and thunder affair with both clubs looking to claim bragging rights despite just being a friendly.

Dele Alli was booked in the first half with a rash tackle on Nicolas Pepe, while Lacazette responded after with a challenge on Oliver Skipp.

It was not only the players who were fired up, with Arteta involved in a clash with Hojbjerg after half-time.

The Spurs midfielder was racing along the touchline, near the dugouts, and slid in to keep the ball in play, which narrowly missed Arteta who had strayed slightly outside his technical area.

They exchanged words, with Hojbjerg saying that Arteta was practically on the pitch as he walked back to his position, with the Arsenal boss responding by putting his finger to his lips and ‘ssshing’ the player.

That angered Hojbjerg, who turned back and walked over to Arteta, appearing to put out his hand to apologise and shake on it.

But Arteta was having none of it, rejecting Hojbjerg’s hand and squaring up to him, pointing him in the chest as he explained his point.

The Spurs supporters booed Arteta and there was a little scuffle on the sideline as Granit Xhaka defended the Spanish coach.

The incident seemed to fire Arsenal players up even more, and they received two yellow cards shortly afterwards.

However, Heung-min Son scored the only goal of the game to secure a 1-0 win for Tottenham.
