Romelu Lukaku’s stance on Chelsea exit as Inter transfer links continue

Romelu Lukaku is hoping to force a move away from Chelsea this summer window as he seeks a quick return to Inter Milan.

According to The Telegraph, the Belgium International is determined to leave the west London club after a disappointing return to the Premier League.

The attacker returned for his second spell with Chelsea in a £97.5m deal last summer, however after scoring 15 goals in 44 games for the club it’s safe to say that expectations haven’t been met yet.

While a permanent move appears unlikely this summer window, the hope is that Lukaku can secure a loan exit with a view to a permanent move next year.

But the prospect of securing a loan move are very slim as well, with Chelsea only willing to accept a deal if it is financially viable.

That could include a £20m loan fee with any permanent fee needing to cover the cost of the initial outlay to bring him back to Stamford Bridge.

Inter Milan are Lukaku’s desired location, however a move to the San Siro could be tricky with the Italian club continuing their pursuit of Paulo Dybala on a free transfer from Juve.

Speaking on the talkSPORT Breakfast, the former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino said: “Mason Mount was the club’s top scorer in the Premier League this season – Lukaku hasn’t scored enough goals.

“It’s a tough one, what do you do with him? How many clubs in Europe can afford to pay his wages and pay a fee that would get him out the door?

“It’s going to come down to Tuchel. Sometimes managers just don’t fancy you, you’re not their cup of tea, and it looks that way. It doesn’t look like a good fit with Lukaku and Tuchel at Chelsea.

“If he’s given the option of getting Lewandowski, you’re going to go for it. OK, he’s 32, but Chelsea signed Thiago Silva and he’s been a brilliant signing for the club.

“If they could get that one over the line, Chelsea missed goals in the centre-forward position all season, and it’s cost them so dearly. They’ve come third and they are FIFA Club World Cup champions, but they could have done with an ultimate goalscorer and he’s one of them.

“You’d take Lewandowski every day of the week, he’s guaranteed goals and his wages would be small change for Chelsea.”
