Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo has criticised Alejandro Garnacho’s behaviour after Manchester United’s Europa League victory over the Spanish side and says he should be more ‘humble’.
The two teams played out a thrilling play-off round game, with United winning 4-3 on aggregate after a draw at Camp Nou followed by a stunning second-half display at Old Trafford in which Fred and Antony netted the key goals.
Garnacho came on as a substitute and was a constant menace down the left wing, though it was his actions after the match that really caused a stir.
After the game, the Spanish-born Argentine made a ‘binoculars’ gesture with his hands which appeared to mock Pedri’s celebration.
He also uploaded a picture of the gesture to Instagram alongside the caption, ‘The big team advanced to the next round’ – a remark that did not go down well with the La Liga giants.
Araujo has now hit out at Garnacho over his antics and said the 18-year-old attacker still has a lot to learn.
Asked if he was furious with Garnacho’s behaviour, Araujo told South American outlet infobae: ‘Yes. Everyone expresses what they want, but it wasn’t the time to post that.

‘I respect everyone, and I think humility is important, but I prefer to respond on the field.
‘He’s still young, has a long way to go. I think you have to be humble.’
Araujo laughed off suggestions he would remind Garnacho of his post if they ever meet again, before speaking on the match: ‘We both arrived at a good time and it was a good tie.
‘We both competed to qualify but we didn’t manage it. We had to turn the page quickly and move on because we now have a big goal ahead which is to win La Liga and the Copa del Rey.’
