Chelsea increase offer to sign Manuel Ugarte in order to see off PSG interest

Chelsea have reportedly increased their offer to sign Sporting midfielder Manuel Ugarte this summer window.

The West London side have made him a top midfield target with Pochettino giving the move the green light in one of his first huge decisions since being confirmed as the new manager at the club.

Chelsea have signalled their intent to activate the 22-year-old’s release clause and have increased their salary offer to £3.1m per year, in addition to a number of performance-based incentives & bonuses.

It is a huge increase on Chelsea’s previous offer of €2m, but one that falls short of the €5m package offered by PSG who are also keen to sign the midfielder. And Ugarte is favouring a move to the Premier League.

Pochettino is also reported to have spoken to the player directly to help push through the deal.

PSG are believed to have offered Sporting a more favourable deal regarding the transfer fee.

Chelsea have offered to pay Ugarte’s £51.5m clause in multiple instalments but PSG are willing to split the cost across just two payments of £25.7m.

Chelsea have also attempted to include David Datro Fofana as part of the deal for Ugarte but it was rejected by Sporting.

The West Londoners will hope to raise additional funds through player sales in the coming weeks and months with Mason Mount likely to fetch the biggest fee.
