Micah Richards hits out at ‘pathetic’ Man Utd star for ‘disturbing his teammates’

Micah Richards has blasted Manchester United skipper Bruno Fernandes for his treatment of a teammate during the defeat at Tottenham.

United were beaten 2-0 last Saturday and put in another poor display following their unconvincing victory against Wolves.

It’s not been a good start to life for Fernandes’ captaincy, with the midfielder now under constant scrutiny and pressure – much like Harry Maguire.

Against Tottenham, that criticism was justifiable, with Rio Ferdinand unimpressed with the way the Portugal star moaned about the referee’s decisions rather than conceding his team wasn’t good enough.

Even before he was made skipper, there was plenty of debate over whether the 28-year-old was the right man to wear the armband due to his petulant attitude on the pitch.

Richards has doubled down on this, revealing the way Fernandes reacted to young teammate Facundo Pellistri during the Spurs loss after a move broke down.

‘It’s getting embarrassing now,’ the Manchester City icon said on The Rest Is Football podcast.

‘The young lad Pellistri comes on. Fernandes is trying to get his team playing and I totally understand he’s frustrated.

‘Pellistri made a run, Fernandes didn’t see him and [so] he made a different run but because he wasn’t where [Fernandes] wanted him to be, he’s going off at Pellestri.

‘It’s every time. I saw an interview with him the other day and he said he needs to be emotional when he performs because it makes him play better.

‘But I feel like his body language on the pitch is disturbing the rest of the team and it’s just not a good look at all. It’s pathetic at times.’
