Former Liverpool player Jamie Carragher has claimed that Cristiano Ronaldo’s power struggle with Harry Maguire made his “undermining gain momentum” at Manchester United.
The England international was stripped of the captain’s armband before this new campaign kicked off.

The Red Devils manager Erik ten Hag, has since named Bruno Fernandes as the team’s new skipper.
Prior to that, it was Ronaldo who appeared to challenge the player’s authority, which Carragher sees as a watershed moment.
He wrote in the Telegraph: “It was a similar story when Cristiano Ronaldo returned and reports emerged about power struggles in the United dressing room.
“That is when the undermining of Maguire gained momentum.”
It was also reported last year that Ronaldo believed he was a better choice to be Manchester United captain.
