Mauricio Pochettino speaks out on Chelsea interest in Jordan Henderson

Mauricio Pochettino remained tight-lipped when questioned about the possibility of Chelsea’s interest in Jordan Henderson, a midfielder from the Saudi Pro League, following his team’s 4-0 FA Cup victory over Preston last Saturday.

The English international sparked controversy by transferring from Liverpool to the Middle East during the summer and reportedly is dissatisfied with his experience at the new club, Al Ettifaq, where he faces challenges with low attendance and intense heat.

Despite the 33-year-old’s move to Saudi Arabia, he has maintained his position in Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions squad and is reportedly eager to return to playing in the Premier League.

However, any potential interest from Chelsea was kept undisclosed by manager Pochettino.

He said: “We didn’t talk about names. At the moment, we are not talking about players.

“I saw Behdad [Eghbali], with Paul [Winstanley] and Laurence [Stewart]. I think we are going to have a chat tomorrow. We didn’t talk about names or players. For now, we are focusing on players like Andrey Santos.”

Henderson has become a modern icon at Anfield, leading the Reds to triumphs in the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, and Carabao Cup before concluding his 12-year tenure on Merseyside.

The potential arrivals at Stamford Bridge might hinge on possible departures. According to 90min, Chelsea is eager to retain Conor Gallagher, who has 18 months left on his contract, but they are open to considering offers starting at £60m.

Chelsea’s youthful yet costly squad has faced challenges in maintaining consistency throughout the season.

Nonetheless, they are presently enjoying their most successful stretch since Pochettino took charge, securing victories in five of their last six games across all competitions.

Their upcoming fixtures include the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final against Middlesbrough, followed by a home match against Fulham. Subsequently, there is a ten-day gap before the Blues face Boro again at Stamford Bridge.
