Pochettino names Chelsea star who took ‘six months’ to learn what he expects

According to Mauricio Pochettino, it took Noni Madueke, the Chelsea star, approximately six months to grasp the expectations set by the Argentine head coach for the current season.

Chelsea acquired Madueke from PSV for around £30m less than a year ago, securing the 21-year-old with a seven-and-a-half-year contract.

Despite playing in 23 games for the Blues, the versatile winger or attacking midfielder has scored only four goals and has yet to provide an assist.

Pochettino shared these insights ahead of Chelsea’s FA Cup third-round match against Preston scheduled for Saturday, having taken on the role of head coach in the summer, said: ‘I am so happy, it took him nearly six months to realise what we expect from him.

‘Players need to improve and he is improving a lot. His behaviour now and how he has committed to himself first, and with the rest of the ideas from the club.

‘He has potential and talent in the way that he needs to do the things and behave in the future if he wants to succeed.

‘That is the platform for everyone and then it is about being right in your mind and be consistent in the way we propose they behave.’

At the same time, Pochettino has declined to assure that Conor Gallagher will remain a Chelsea player beyond the closure of the January transfer window.

In additional transfer updates related to Chelsea, there are reports indicating that Sevilla is actively seeking to secure the services of David Datro Fofana, who is presently undergoing a challenging loan period at Union Berlin.
