Enzo Fernandez’s agent breaks silence on early Chelsea exit

Enzo Fernandez’s agent has dismissed claims that the Argentine regrets committing to a lengthy deal at Chelsea, affirming his client’s full dedication to the west London club.

Chelsea suffered consecutive heavy defeats in the Premier League last week, conceding eight goals against Liverpool and Wolves, and currently occupy the 11th spot in the table, trailing fourth place and the final Champions League qualification spot by 15 points.

This has sparked speculation that some of the club’s recent signings may regret their decisions to join Stamford Bridge, especially on extended contracts.

Fernandez, who arrived at Chelsea in a £107 million transfer from Benfica in January 2023, was offered a contract until 2031 to enable the club to spread out his transfer fee over the lengthy duration of his deal, thus circumventing financial fair play regulations.

However, his agent, Uriel Perez, has strongly refuted the rumors surrounding Fernandez’s future at Chelsea, asserting unequivocally that he has no intentions of departing from the club anytime soon.

‘The player has no intention of leaving,’ Perez told Spanish newspaper AS.

‘The Chelsea hierarchy were very clear with this project. It’s a plan that was always going to be difficult at the beginning because new and young players were going to arrive.

‘But when the pieces of the team all fit together, Chelsea are going to move forward.

‘Enzo’s desire is to be on the team and win trophies. We have not met with any clubs or even tried to talk to any clubs, that’s not true.

‘We know what the player’s desire is. Obviously he would like Chelsea to be in a better position [in the league] but that will be achieved with hard work.’

The 23-year-old has experienced a somewhat varied season and has faced some challenges in meeting the expectations set by his £107m price tag. However, he responded resoundingly to the speculation surrounding him on Wednesday night.

Fernandez showcased an outstanding performance at Villa Park during Chelsea’s FA Cup fourth-round replay against Aston Villa, asserting his dominance in the midfield and controlling the pace of the game.

He capped off his performance with a remarkable free-kick that extended Chelsea’s lead to 3-0, unleashing an unstoppable strike past fellow countryman Emi Martinez.

Subsequently, he removed his shirt, gesturing to both his name and then the pitch, seemingly suggesting his firm commitment to staying put.
