The goalkeeper was notably left out of Luis Enrique’s squad for the Super Cup clash on Wednesday, and later took to social media to announce his exit from the club.
Although Donnarumma played a key role in PSG’s quadruple-winning campaign last season, the club has chosen to stand by Enrique’s decision to move forward without him.
“I am supported by my club and we are trying to find the best solution,” he said in a press conference ahead of his side’s triumph over Tottenham.
“It is a difficult decision. I only have praise for Donnarumma. He is one of the very best goalkeepers out there and an even better man.
“But we were looking for a different profile. It’s very difficult to take these types of decisions.”
Donnarumma is attracting significant attention from Premier League giants, with Manchester City, Manchester United, and Chelsea all vying for his signature.
The Italian goalkeeper has reportedly made it clear where he sees his future, showing strong interest in a move to either City or Chelsea.
On The Transfers Podcast, Italian journalist Aurelio Capaldi revealed that Donnarumma is particularly drawn to Pep Guardiola’s style and would relish the opportunity to work under him at the Etihad Stadium.
At 26, Donnarumma is also intrigued by the prospect of living in London and sees Chelsea as an appealing destination, both professionally and personally.
Manchester City may soon be in need of a new first-choice keeper, as Ederson is rumored to be considering a transfer to Galatasaray.
Despite Chelsea’s recent acquisition of James Trafford from Burnley for £27 million, Donnarumma remains a top target due to his experience and pedigree.
Having come through AC Milan’s youth ranks and made his senior debut there, Donnarumma moved to Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer in 2021.
His agent, Enzo Raiola, believes that a move to the Premier League would be a natural and positive progression in his career.
“Premier League is the right step for Gigio in my view, we’re working on it,” he explained.
“There are zero talks with Italian clubs. We are still shocked by PSG behaviour with Gigio. There’s zero respect by the club after four years together. We will consider the situation also with our legal team.
“We will consider solutions now, maybe in Premier League there will be clubs able to pay what’s needed.
“Paris Saint-Germain are asking for big money. They talk about respect, but it’s only about the money.”
