Their 2-1 victory over Hansi Flick’s side featured a decisive goal from Jude Bellingham, but it’s the Englishman’s four-word remark to his Barcelona counterpart, Pedri, that’s gaining attention online. ..Continue Reading
In a match full of grit and intensity, Kylian Mbappe opened the scoring with a composed finish in the 22nd minute.
Barcelona responded swiftly, with Fermin Lopez finding the net just before halftime.
Real Madrid’s performance was convincing, and Bellingham’s goal restored belief that dethroning their rivals is a real possibility this season.
Currently, the capital club have collected 27 points from their first ten league games, while Barcelona have suffered two defeats in their last three outings.
Beyond his match-winning contribution, Bellingham — who joined from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2023 — once again stole the spotlight.
He delivered a commanding midfield display, registering five shots and completing four passes in the final third, including a precise assist for Mbappe’s opener.
During a clash with Pedri, Bellingham took the opportunity to mock the Spaniard, who had gone down under a challenge from the Englishman.
Believing Pedri was exaggerating the contact, Bellingham tried to lift his opponent’s head off the ground, prompting Barcelona players to call for a red card.
Eric Garcia was among those who protested to referee Cesar Soto Grado, but no action was taken and play continued.
As tensions rose, Pedri eventually stood up, and Bellingham was seen referencing Barcelona’s controversial history.
“Not even with Negreira!” Bellingham said, alluding to the ongoing Negreira case.
For context, Barcelona are under investigation for substantial payments made to Jose Maria Enriquez Negreira, former Vice President of La Liga’s referee committee, spanning from 1999 to 2018.
Bellingham’s comment implied that even with biased officiating, the incident didn’t warrant a sending off.
The case, reopened in 2023 with allegations of corruption and breach of trust, suggests the payments may have influenced match decisions.
However, bribery charges were dropped in May 2024 due to Negreira’s status as a non-public official.
According to El Mundo, the case has reached a new legal phase, with a Barcelona court ordering the club to submit all contracts and records related to payments made to Negreira and his companies.
The judge has requested the club provide “any type of material that could support its billing.”
