Real, PSG and Arsenal have each won their first three games in the competition, alongside Bayern Munich and Inter Milan.
Now managing Brazil, Ancelotti observes the tournament from a distance, having previously conquered it five times during his illustrious coaching career.
Ahead of the next round of fixtures, Ancelotti was asked to highlight his top contenders and mentioned four teams.
He backed his former sides Real, PSG and Bayern, along with Manchester City, who have claimed two wins from their first three European outings.
“Seen from the other side of the world, the Champions League has the usual favourites: Real Madrid, PSG, Manchester City, and Bayern Munich,” the experienced Italian told Tutto Sport.
“In these first few matchdays, we’ve seen matches with high goals, and such sensational results make us lose interest.
“This first phase has been expanded to make it more interesting, yet it’s not turning out that way. We have to accept that.”
Notably, Ancelotti did not mention Liverpool, who got back to winning form with a victory over Aston Villa on Saturday.
Slot’s side were eliminated from last season’s tournament by PSG, the reigning champions after their dominant win over Inter.
Given their strong showing last year, they remain the team to beat.
Luis Enrique’s side currently lead the Champions League standings after three rounds.
Ancelotti also referenced Pep Guardiola’s Man City, who lifted the trophy during their historic treble-winning run in 2023.
Real are expected to contend again, given their rich legacy in the competition.
The Spanish powerhouse claimed their 15th European title in the 2023/24 season.
