Gabby Agbonlahor has hit out at Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea tactics by saying that he finds them ‘boring’ to watch.
Chelsea suffered a shock 4-1 home defeat to Brentford last week as Tuchel’s side struggled to cope with the Bees’ attacking threat.
Despite the defeat, the Blues look set to finish in the top four, are still in the UEFA Champions League and have an FA Cup semi-final against Crystal Palace still to come this month.
But former Premier League player Agbonlahor doesn’t find them entertaining like he does Liverpool and Manchester City. TalkSPORT host Laura Woods asked him: ‘Do you like watching Chelsea play at the moment?’
And Agbonlahor responded: ‘No, I find it boring. When I watch Manchester City and watch Liverpool – entertaining games, you always want to watch them on TV.
‘When it’s Chelsea… sometimes Lukaku’s making runs and they’re just playing keep ball.
‘Passing to midfield, pass it to the three centre-halves, pass it to the keeper, keep passing it. It’s like they’re playing 10 passes a goal, we did that in the youth team.’
Tuchel will be looking for a response from his team when they host Real Madrid in the first leg of their quarter-final Champions League clash.
The atmosphere at Stamford Bridge was flat on Saturday as Brentford put four past them but Tuchel has urged the fans to turn up the volume this evening.
‘We absolutely need it. We need to be better on the pitch – we’re the first to admit it – but we need the crowd to be better,’ he said.
‘We need everybody on the front foot. It’s a big match, quarter-finals, against a big opponent. It’s a big occasion. ‘I think that normally we have these kinds of atmospheres in the evening games and big matches throughout this season.
‘Spectators in the Champions League matches gave us a huge push in terms of atmosphere and energy. We need it. It’s crucial in these games.
‘We feel it in every away game when we play to win: Malmo, Saint Petersburg, Lille. It’s super hard and it’s much harder to play against the spectators as well.
‘We will face it next week in Madrid, so everybody needs to be on the top level. We have to set the spark but everybody needs to arrive tomorrow ready to support.’
