With Arsenal currently sitting second in the Premier League, they are set to finish another season without silverware. Despite Arteta’s lack of trophies in recent years, his job at Arsenal does not appear to be under immediate threat.
According to The Daily Mail, the Spaniard is not involved in any discussions about being dismissed, at least for now.
However, the report suggests that the 43-year-old should be under pressure given another season without major success.
It also highlights Arteta’s significant spending during his tenure, including the £105 million signing of Declan Rice from West Ham United.
The report read: “Arteta will point to progress but he has spent handsomely – north of £600million – and on his watch both Manchester City and Liverpool have won the league, with Arsenal’s title challenge becoming meeker and meeker.
“He has taken Arsenal from eighth in his first season to within touching distance of the Champions League final and made them a stable presence in the top four, but Arteta needs to start winning things.”
Since taking charge of Arsenal in December 2019, Arteta has secured just one major trophy—the FA Cup.
He led the team to victory in the competition during the 2019/20 season.
With the summer transfer window approaching, Arteta looks set to remain at the helm and has emphasized that the club is gearing up for an ambitious period of recruitment, bolstered by the arrival of new sporting director Andrea Berto.
On Berto joining Arsenal, he said: “Yes, I think it’s a big addition to the club, a big addition to the team. A team that is already formed with a lot of great people.
“Richard [Garlick] leading it, obviously. But as well with James [King], with Jason [Ayto], with a lot of people at the club that have been doing such good work.”
On Arsenal’s summer plans, the Spaniard added: “The way we planned the five first summers (since I took charge), they were going to be very big and they were going to have different objectives because the turnaround of players and the objective of those windows was different.
“Now we want to increase the depth of the squad, but as well we want to increase the quality and the skills that we need to go to the next step. It’s going to be a big one and we are very excited about it.”
