Arsenal could miss out on around £40m if they fail to beat Chelsea in the FA Cup final today – Both sides will be keen on winning the final but the gunners actually need this win a lot more.
Chelsea have already secured a place in the Champions League for next season having finished fourth in the Premier League table.
Meanwhile, Arsenal’s eighth-placed finish means winning the FA Cup is their last hope of qualifying for next season’s Europa League.
It was reported by the Times in December that Arsenal could miss out on £40m if they fail to secure Europa League qualification.
The London side would lose commercial, ticket sales and TV income if they fail to qualify to play in Europe.
Arsenal’s annual financial results released in December revealed the club earned £36.6m in broadcasting revenue from playing in the Europa League last camapaign. That would be gone, if they fail to qualify.
The gunners are already feeling the effects of not playing Champions League football but missing out on Europa League would be a huge blow
Making Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang stay at the Emirates is already a difficult enough task but no European football and a lack of enough funds won’t encourage him to sign a new contract.
What this means is that Arsenal will be forced to sell Aubameyang, as his current contract expires next year.
