Mikel Arteta hints at fresh Mesut Ozil problems after Spurs defeat

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has hinted at fresh problems with Mesut Ozil after the midfielder was dropped from the squad to face Jose Mourinho’s side.

The German player is Arsenal’s best-paid player and he isn’t carrying an injury currently with the gunners.

But the World Cup winner midfielder still failed to even make the bench for the club’s most important game of the campaign against Tottenham.

When asked about Ozil’s absence, Mikel Arteta refused to give details about the situation, but he said: “We will manage it internally.”

Arsenal took the lead in the north London derby on Sunday through Alexandre Lacazette, but eventually conceded two goals to lose 2-1.

Arteta added: “I’m disappointed, frustrated and sorry for the boys. But, if you give the two goals away that we have given, it’s very difficult.

“We have to learn. Every game something happens. A little margin here, a little margin there. It will happen. Points wise, it’s a massive blow, but we will keep trying (for Europe).”

“If we minimise the mistakes we do and keep playing like that, we will win many, many football games.”

“We played the way we wanted to play, the way we want to come to any ground and put the performance we put in, to dominate the opponent. We will move forward and continue that way.

“It’s a massive blow, the players are gutted. You saw the effort they put in. We came here to win, that is the game plan we had. To lose it, it will take a few days to swallow that one because we know how much it means to our fans.”
