Arteta sends message to Arsenal over Martin Odegaard’s future

Arteta on Odegaard

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta wants to keep Martin Odegaard at the club and has told the board to explore the option of extending his stay at the Emirates.

Arteta has been impressed by the young midfielder since his arrival from Real Madrid in the January window and wants to be able to call on him next campaign.

Odegaard has enjoyed a fine week in at Arsenal. He scored a superb goal against Olympiacos in the Europa League before finding the net in the London derby against Tottenham.

Arteta wants the Norway skipper to stay and, according to the Daily Mail, the Arsenal boss has told the gunners he wants the club to look at a deal.

Arsenal are open to keeping him at the club should finances allow a deal to happen. They would be willing to extend his loan for another campaign and would also consider making his stay permanent.

Discussions will be opened with his parent club Real Madrid at the end of the season but a deal could materialise if Arsenal fail to qualify for Europe.

Real Madrid are believed to be willing to sell the player this summer as they are aiming to raise funds for signing either Kylian Mbappe or Erling Haaland.

And Odegaard has hinted he wants to extend his stay at the Emirates. He told VG: ‘I said many times that I have been looking for stability [at the same club], but haven’t found it.

‘I think it will be important to find stability. I am very happy at Arsenal, enjoying myself. I like it here. ‘Now my focus is to finish the season then we will see.’
