Aubameyang & Maitland Niles drop hints on their Arsenal futures

Arsenal forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has hinted his future at the club will become clearer in the next few days.

The Gunners captain proved his importance to Arteta’s side with another decisive Wembley display, hot on the heels of matchwinning performances against Manchester City and Chelsea in last campaign ’s FA Cup victory.

Aubameyang opened the scoring in the first-half of the game against Liverpool with a superb goal from the edge of the penalty area, capping a good move which had started with Martinez.

And Liverpool midfielder Takumi Minamino deservedly drew Jurgen Klopp’s side level in the 73rd minute with his first goal for the Reds.

However, Neither team was able to force a winner in the closing stages and the community Shield was decided in a shootout with Arsenal winning 5-4.

After the game, Aubameyang, who scored the winning penalty, was asked to speak on his future, and he said: ‘We’re going to see in these days. Today we take the trophy, that’s it. We are improving.

‘There is still work to do but I’m really happy and it’s an exciting time to be an Arsenal player.’

The future of Ainsley Maitland-Niles is also the subject of intense speculation with Wolves and Tottenham showing their interest in a player Arteta is desperate to keep at the club.

Maitland-Niles was given the man-of-the-match award and said he sees himself as an Arsenal player until he is being told otherwise.

‘I’m an Arsenal player until I’m told otherwise,’ said the 23-year-old, who also scored in the shootout.

‘He has to be able to convince me every three days,’ said Arteta of the England Under-21 international. ‘At the moment he’s showing he can do it. The best way to show a player what I think of him is whether he plays or not.’
