Barcelona drop Ousmane Dembele asking price to just £37m

Ousmane Dembele

Barcelona are accelerating their attempts to sell Ousmane Demebele, and would be willing to part with the player for only £37m – a third of the £130m they splashed out to sign him from German side Dortmund.

More than three years after arriving at the club, Demebele has failed to impress, playing just nine games this campaign for the catalans – just five of those coming as starts.

All in all he has 74 appearances and 19 goals at Barcelona, but given the financial issues during the coronavirus crisis, the club are keen to clear some room in their wage budget as he currently earns £200,000 per week wages.

Barca would be making a huge loss on the fee they spend on him, but his performances – in addition to his injuries – mean they can no longer afford to keep him in the tea. as a bit-part player.

The 23-year-old has suffered an hamstring problem that has kept him out for most of the season after picking it up in November. But even before this, he was struggling for game time and form.

The club are accept any bid around £37m, according to Sport, which could alert PSG after reports linking him to the Ligue 1 club.

PSG president Leonardo is believed to be interested in signing Dembele as a marquee signing for the club this summer and is preparing a bid, the report adds.

Given his wage demands, the French side would be one of few sides with the financial capability of signing the Ftenchman with clubs set to struggle in the market as the pandemic continues to take its toll.

Barcelona are hoping their huge discount on Dembele will attract more suitors, which could come from the Italian Serie A or China.

LaLiga teams have been warned to forget about big-money signings when the summer transfer window opens.

Instead, competition chief Javier Tebas has urged clubs to focus on bringing youth players through and recalling loans.
