Several players delivered standout performances in Inter’s thrilling 4-3 victory, with Lautaro Martinez and Yann Sommer arguably producing their best displays of the season.
However, one Barcelona player caught attention for all the wrong reasons, prompting frustrated fans to flood social media with calls for his departure this summer.
The first leg ended in a pulsating 3-3 draw, leaving everything to play for in Milan as the winner would advance to the final later this month.
A breathtaking 90 minutes saw the second leg end in another 3-3 stalemate, forcing extra time where Inter substitute Davide Frattesi netted the decisive goal.
Barcelona fans believe a single player bears responsibility for their team’s failure to secure victory, and they did not hesitate to voice their frustrations.
Posting on X, one Barcelona fan wrote: “Sell Araujo. How many times have I said this. Sell him. Sell him. Sell him.”
Another agreed, saying: “This needs to be Araujo’s final match for the club.”
While one suggested: “Ronald Araujo should be shipped to Juventus this Summer. This guy and Ter Stegen can’t be my captains.”
And another claimed: “Players like araujo make you hate the sport. the anger boiling inside of me right now isn’t good for my health man.”
Araujo started the match on the bench but was introduced in the 76th minute, replacing fellow defender Inigo Martinez.
Unfortunately for the Uruguayan, his involvement proved decisive for all the wrong reasons, as he was directly linked to both the late equalizer that revived Inter’s hopes after Raphinha’s apparent winner and the decisive strike from Frattesi in extra time.
Araujo had the responsibility of marking Acerbi before Inter’s dramatic equalizer and later allowed Marcus Thuram the space to turn and initiate the play that led to Frattesi’s winning goal.
