Meanwhile, Real Madrid emerged victorious in the Madrid derby, taking a 2-1 lead into next week’s second leg.
Following the night’s matches, Carragher, along with fellow pundit Micah Richards, completed their tournament brackets live on CBS Sports.
The former defender predicted Liverpool, Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Inter Milan to advance to the semi-finals.
Carragher then forecasted that Madrid would overcome Liverpool, and Barcelona would triumph over Inter.
Speaking about the final, Carragher said: “A Clasico final! Even though Barcelona have got the better of Real Madrid a lot this season. I am going go for the winners, Real Madrid.”
Speaking after the first leg win, Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti said: “It was a difficult game as usual. It always is against Atleti. In the first half we lost too many balls. We had unnecessary losses. Julián scored. In the second half we were better. We were able to get the lead again and we held on.
“The initial plan was to play on the wings, with Vini and Rodrygo. It went well in the first play and then we lost patience. We worked, we had control of the game. We pushed hard. But it was not the idea to press, but to be compact. And the team was compact throughout the game.”
Real Madrid are back in La Liga action this weekend when they face Rayo Vallecano on Sunday at the Bernabeu.
