Cech makes Edouard Mendy prediction after his superb Chelsea start

Petr Cech says he is convinced Edouard Mendy will get better for Chelsea after his impressive start at the club.

Mendy was signed for £22m from Rennes in the summer transfer window and has been a instant success, takingthe role of first-choice keeper ahead of Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Following the blues’ 3-0 victory over Burnley on Saturday, Mendy became Chelsea’s first goalie since Cech in 2004 to begin his career in the Premier League with three clean sheets.

Mendy has now kept five clean sheets in a row in all competitions. And Cech, who played a key role in recommending him to Chelsea’s hierarchy this summer, believes he will continue to improve.

‘We had to make sure it was someone everyone agreed on, not just me,’ Cech told Telefoot. ‘It had to be the club, and especially the manager, who had to be comfortable with the choice. We had a list of goalkeepers.

‘We presented it all to Frank Lampard. We spoke with the scouts, we shared information. We gave the pros and cons of each goalkeeper. In the end, my knowledge of Edouard over the last three years helped.

‘I think he’s a goalkeeper who can still improve, with his work, professionalism and desire to be better every day.

‘I’m convinced he’ll improve more, and these aren’t the best performances you’ll see from Edouard Mendy.’
