Chelsea agree surprise deal after Arsenal win race for Euro 2024 player

Chelsea have reached an agreement to sign Portuguese talent Renato Veiga from FC Basel.

This summer, the Blues have already secured four new players: Tosin Adarabioyo from Fulham, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall from Leicester City, and young prospects Marc Guiu and Omari Kellyman.

According to Fabrizio Romano, a €14 million (£11.8 million) deal for 20-year-old Veiga has been finalized, including personal terms.

The Portugal Under-21 international is set to undergo a medical exam soon before his move to Stamford Bridge.

Veiga is versatile, capable of playing as a centre-back, left-back, and midfielder, making him a valuable asset for Chelsea.

Additionally, Chelsea have shown interest in Bologna’s Riccardo Calafiori, who stood out for Italy at Euro 2024.

However, reports indicate Arsenal are leading the race to sign him. Arsenal are expected to have a €55 million bid accepted by Bologna and have already agreed on personal terms with Calafiori, who is poised to join them on a four-year deal.

Meanwhile, Chelsea are still in the market for a new striker to enhance Enzo Maresca’s attacking lineup for the upcoming season.

Although Nicolas Jackson scored 17 goals in his debut season, additional striking power is desired.

Chelsea had interest in RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, but the Slovenian international has chosen to stay in Germany for another season.

Atletico Madrid’s Samu Omorodion is another potential target, but recent reports suggest Atletico rejected a £42 million offer.

Chelsea might need to significantly increase their bid to meet his release clause of nearly £70 million.
