Eric Choupo-Moting makes decision over Man Utd transfer as Bayern consider deal

Reports suggest that Bayern Munich forward Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting is open to a move to Manchester United during the January transfer window.

United’s manager, Erik ten Hag, is eager to bolster the team’s central striker position before the month concludes, with Choupo-Moting featuring on the club’s shortlist.

The 34-year-old, who is not included in Cameroon’s squad for the Africa Cup of Nations, has found playing time hard to come by this season at Bayern.

He has started only three games in the Bundesliga and none in the Champions League.

Choupo-Moting’s chances of securing a regular role at Bayern have been further diminished by the arrival of Harry Kane last summer.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Choupo-Moting is interested in joining United. However, the Premier League club might face challenges in convincing Bayern to let go of the player, considering his impactful contributions coming off the bench.

‘I’m also hearing that at Bayern Munich they’re very happy with him because he’s been super professional every time they needed him, he’s always been on point and always been available in the best conditions,’ Romano told GiveMeSport.

‘Bayern would like to keep him, even though they have Harry Kane, because Mathys Tel is very young, he’s doing fantastic but he’s very young.’

Choupo-Moting joined Bayern on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain in October 2020 and played a key role in the German club securing three Bundesliga titles.

In the previous season, the 34-year-old experienced the pinnacle of his career, netting 17 goals in 30 appearances across all competitions.
