Andreas Christensen to sign new & much-improved Chelsea contract

Andreas Christensen has reportedly earned himself a new contract at Chelsea after becoming a regular in Thomas Tuchel’s impressive team at the club.

The defender made his Chelsea debut back in 2014 and has been in and out of the team since then, seemingly coming close to leaving the West London club in the 2020 January transfer window.

But, he has found a place under Tuchel, starting four Premier League matches and one game in the Champions League this campaign. Tuchel identified Christensen as a player he liked when he arrived in January, handing him 10 league starts in the second half of the campaign.

Christensen is now in the last year of his Chelsea contract, but he is set to be handed a new one, with The Sun claiming that it will be improved, stepping up to around £120,000-per-week from his current salary of £78,000-a-week.

This is an impressive turnaround from a point where the Denmark international was actually offered a pay cut to stay at Stamford Bridge.

The Sun’s report reports that Chelsea wanted to extend Christensen’s stay at the club last year, but only saw him as a squad player and even offered him less money to sign a new deal.

But, things have changed now, and after he helped them to Champions League triumph last season and is a major part of their Premier League title challenge this campaign, he has being offered a pay rise.

Christensen has now played 133 matches for the Blues, although he is still in search for his first ever goal for the club.

Chelsea are back in action on Wednesday (22 September) at home against Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup, which Christensen may be rested for, before returning in the huge clash with Man City in the Premier League on Saturday.
