Inter head coach Antonio Conte is reportedly under police protection in Italy after receiving a bullet in the post.
According to Corriere della Sera and Gazzetta dello Sport, the former Chelsea manager received an envelope from an unknown sender containing a bullet and a letter which issued a host of threats.
An investigation has now been launched while Conte is now under police surveillance outside his home and at Inter Milan’s training ground.
Several political figures in Italy have been sent similar threats through the post which includes Silvio Berlusconi, the country’s former prime minister.
Reports claim that police are taking the matter seriously but believe the unknown sender is simply seeking attention and the threats towards the Milan coach will not result in any ‘real aggression’.
Conte joined Inter in the summer and his team are currently one point behind Juventus at the top of Serie A table.
The 50-year-old also spent two years at Chelsea, winning both the Premier League and the FA Cup during his time at the club.
Earlier this year, Antonio Conte won his legal battle against Chelsea and they were ordered to pay the Italian £9 million in compensation after sacking him last summer.
However, Inter have denied Antonio Conte was the target saying: “In relation to the news published today, Inter Milan states that Antonio Conte did not personally receive any threatening letters and, consequently, he did not go in person to file a complaint,” the club statement said.
Meanwhile, Conte’s wife Elisabetta Muscarello wrote on social media: “For the record: the story of the bullet is a hoax!”
