The Ivorian legend also spoke about five Chelsea players—both past and present—he wishes he could have shared the field with.
This list includes current player Reece James, who remains at Stamford Bridge, along with Romelu Lukaku (now at Napoli), Antonio Rudiger (Real Madrid), N’Golo Kante (Al-Ittihad), and Mason Mount (Manchester United), who have since moved on to other clubs.
“I would have loved to have played in the Club World Cup. It is life, that is how things are. It is one of my regrets, actually. I was really happy to go to Abu Dhabi to watch Chelsea win it,” Drogba was quoted as saying by Give Me Sport.
“For me, it was also a great experience. I wish I was on the pitch with Romelu Lukaku, Antonio Rudiger, N’Golo Kante, Mason Mount, Reece James and so on (sic). Yes, it is a regret,” he added.
Drogba had two stints with Chelsea, initially from 2004 to 2012 and later from 2014 to 2015. During his time as a forward with the club, he achieved remarkable success, netting 164 goals and providing 88 assists across 381 games.
The 46-year-old, who retired in 2018, boasts an impressive collection of trophies with Chelsea, including four Premier League titles and four FA Cups. He also lifted the Champions League trophy in the 2011-12 season.
Drogba became a Chelsea icon by helping the club secure their first league title in 50 years, just after he joined in 2004.
