Erik ten Hag identifies three players Man Utd need for rebuild

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has identified three areas of his teams that he wants to bolster this summer in order to continue his rebuild at the club.

The Red Devils were well beaten by Newcastle United on Sunday, which saw the Magpies leapfrog Ten Hag’s team into third.

United’s top four hopes are now under serious threat after picking up just one point from their last nine games.

They can qualify for the Champions League by winning the Europa League and it’s key for United to get qualification in order to attract their top targets.

Ten Hag wants a top class centre forward, a box-to-box midfielder and a new right-back to improve his squad.

Harry Kane is United’s top target in attack but Tottenham want £100m+ to part with the England skipper and Daniel Levy is a notoriously difficult negotiator.

Victor Osimhen, the Napoli striker, is an alternative target and, at five years Kane’s junior, and he arguably represents better value.

In midfield, United would love to sign Frenkie de Jong but the Dutchman has already made it clear he’s happy in Barcelona.

Jude Bellingham is another target but competition for the England midfielder is fierce, with Manchester City, Liverpool and Real Madrid all interested.

Obtaining a striker and a midfielder is considered the main priority and should Ten Hag sign both players, he will then assess his budget to see if it could stretch to signing a right-back.

Diogo Dalot’s form has been disappointing since the turn of the year as the full-back’s struggled with injury.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka has made a turnaround at the club and is arguably now first choice, given Dalot’s bad form.
