Ferdinand takes major dig at Man Utd board with Chelsea transfer comparison

Ferdinand

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand believes Chelsea’s spending this summer reflects poorly on his former team and that fans are right to feel ‘frustrated’ with a lack of transfer activity.

The Red Devils have made only one signing so far this season with the £40m signing of Donny van de Beek from Ajax.

Meanwhile, Chelsea have spent over £230m on six players by signing players like Chilwell, Thiago Silva, Werner, Hakim Ziyech and Kai Havertz.

United have spent the majority of the summer working on a deal to bring Jadon Sancho to Old Trafford but they look set to begin the campaign with just one new signing and Ferdinand says Chelsea have made a mockery of his former club’s tactics.

‘Frank has made signing players like it’s the norm, like it’s easy – water off a duck’s back,’ Ferdinand told the Five YouTube Channel.

‘The difference in the way Chelsea have done their business compared to say my team Man United… there is no noise there’s nothing going on, all you’re seeing is bang – deal. Little bit of talk, bang-deal.

‘That is what’s frustrating for me and all the Man United fans.’

The main deal that is frustrating United fans is the club’s move to sign Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho.

The German side set a £108m asking price for the England international earlier this summer but United allowed a deadline to pass without meeting their valuation.

Ferdinand says United’s decision-making in the transfer market is puzzling and Chelsea’s business in the market only serves to make them look even worse.

‘Sancho was talked about months ago,’ said Ferdinand. ‘Still not done, it’s so frustrating, I’m not saying deals are easy to be done but Chelsea are showing deals can be done if you put the money down and it’s all done in the right way.’
