He netted the opener at St. James’ Park with a header, marking his first goal for the club since joining on loan from Manchester United.

With Thomas Tuchel observing from the stands, the England forward added a second with a powerful shot from distance, which drew praise from Fernandes, who reacted online to his former teammate’s impressive display.

Fernandes followed up with another show of support by commenting on Rashford’s Instagram post celebrating the match.

Rashford posted several photos from the game, along with the caption: “Great way to kick off the Champions League.”

His performance served as a reminder to Manchester United and Ruben Amorim of what they’ve let go.

After scoring twice for Barcelona, he told TNT Sports: “That is what I am here to do – to help the team win, but also to try to improve and be the best that I can.”

Looking back on his experience in Spain, the 27-year-old said: “It is an amazing experience. I have always been a huge admirer of Barcelona, most people my age have watched them play from when we were younger.

“It is amazing football and amazing players. We just want to win as much as possible.”

Hansi Flick praised Rashford following Barcelona’s Champions League victory.

“For me, this was the first step and he has to make the next one because this match, these two goals here in England against Newcastle for Barcelona in the first Champions League match of the season, I think it’s great, it’s really great,” he said.

“It gives him confidence in himself and for me, this is the most important thing, that he knows and shows us on the pitch that he’s a fantastic player.”

Rashford will aim to retain his spot in the lineup when Barcelona face Getafe in La Liga on Sunday.
