This impressive run extends to European matches as well, with Flick’s team suffering just one defeat to Monaco in the revamped League Phase.
With Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha, and Lamine Yamal all in excellent form, the Spanish giants appear poised to secure their sixth Champions League title.
Manager Flick is optimistic about their chances but acknowledges that one team stands out as a significant threat to Barcelona’s ambitions this season.
“The future will tell whether we are among the favourites or not,” Flick said back in Janaury.
“The Champions League is one of the most difficult competitions to win, but we have to try.
“When I look at Liverpool, I see a team with incredible power. They are one of my favourite teams in the world right now.
“We are doing well, but there are very good teams that are also doing well, and we are contending on three fronts [Champions League, La Liga and Copa del Rey].
Currently, Liverpool are considered the second favorites by most bookmakers, just behind the reigning champions, Real Madrid.
Due to the new seeding system in the draw for the round of 16 onwards, Barcelona won’t be able to face Liverpool until the final, scheduled for Friday, February 21st, at 11 am.
Barcelona will feel confident if they reach an all-Spanish final, especially since they have already defeated their fiercest rivals twice this season.
Flick has acknowledged Real Madrid’s strengths this season, but he remains confident that he has a tactical advantage over Italian manager Ancelotti, given his recent record against him.
“My players need to forget about the noise around them; we must be strong ourselves,” said the former Bayern boss after Barcelona won the Spanish Super Cup back in January.
“The way we want to play embodies the Barca style, which we showcased well in the last Clasico.
“We won’t be doing anything special. However, one Clasico cannot be compared to another; we start at 0-0, and we simply want to play well and win.”
